Overview
luckycloud GmbH is a Berlin provider of encrypted collaboration and storage, founded in 2015 and privately held. It exists to give organizations a German alternative to the US workspace suites, the Google Workspaces and Microsoft 365s of the world, without giving up the features teams expect: shared drives, documents, chat, and video meetings.
What sets the service apart is what it is built from. The whole platform is assembled out of open source software rather than a closed product. File sync and sharing run on Seafile, documents in an online office editor, team chat on the Matrix protocol, video meetings on BigBlueButton, and the underlying storage on Ceph. Customer data sits in German data centres, and client-side encryption means the keys stay with the customer, so not even luckycloud staff can read the contents.
That combination is why luckycloud earned accreditation. The legal entity is verified and transparently owned, the data stays in a strong privacy jurisdiction, and the technology is genuinely open source underneath rather than sovereignty language wrapped around a proprietary core. The luckycloud service itself is commercial, but the open source foundation it runs on keeps the exit door open for its customers, which is the point for the regulated sectors it serves: healthcare, legal practices, and schools, where data residency and confidentiality are legal duties and not preferences.
