What do these metrics mean?
- Last active: when code was last pushed, as of our last check. The dot is green when that was recent, grey otherwise. A long gap can mean a tool is finished and stable, not only unmaintained.
- Latest release: the most recent stable version the maintainers published as a release on the forge. Some healthy projects publish only tags, or publish their versions elsewhere.
- Open issues: unresolved reports and requests. A high number is normal for a popular project and is not a warning on its own.
- Stars: how many people bookmarked the project on its forge. A rough popularity signal, not a measure of quality.

- Jurisdiction: Singapore πΈπ¬ (Fleetbase Pte. Ltd.)
- Compliance (SaaS): Fleetbase Cloud security and compliance page
- Compliance (Self-Hosted): Self-Hosted (User Managed)
- Complexity: High (4/5) - Eight services on one node: the API, a queue worker, a scheduler, a websocket server, the console, an Nginx proxy, MySQL and Redis
- Maintenance: Moderate (3/5) - Image updates and a deploy script that runs migrations each release; database backups to schedule, off by default, and queue workers to keep running
- User Management: Low (2/5) - Custom roles with granular permissions, two-factor sign-in, Google, Microsoft, GitHub and Apple sign-in and an activity log in the free build; no TLS of its own, no SAML or OIDC sign-in
What the scores mean: Reading the Scores
1. The Executive Summary
What is it? Fleetbase is a modular logistics platform for teams that move goods, people or equipment. It covers dispatch, fleet management and live tracking, commerce, invoicing and a customer portal, with a REST API, webhooks, extensions and open-source driver and storefront apps.
The Strategic Verdict:
- π΄ For teams that need single sign-on or encrypted transport out of the box: Caution. The free build has no SAML or OIDC sign-in and no TLS of its own (User Management).
- π’ For logistics operators that want dispatch and tracking data on their own servers: Conditional Buy. Dispatch, tracking, roles and an activity log come in the free build, once the operator moves routing off the public demo server and switches off the usage report (The Compliance Shift, Jurisdiction).
2. Cost of Ownership
| Cost Component | Fleetbase (Self-Hosted) |
|---|---|
| Pricing Model | No license fee under AGPL-3.0-or-later; paid license for other terms |
| Adoption | Manual migration (orders, drivers and customers by spreadsheet import) |
| Operations | Single VM, several services (MySQL, Redis, workers, websocket server), grows with telematics volume; plus your team's time to run it (Maintenance, in the Profile) |
| Support | From the vendor: Fleetbase Cloud, a managed service, and paid support for self-hosted installs (enterprise support); elsewhere, a paid service provider |
| Exit | SQL dump (mysqldump); leaves out uploaded files, kept on the file storage disk |
What each row covers: Total Cost of Ownership
3. Risk Assessment
- Jurisdiction: Fleetbase Pte. Ltd., the project's vendor, is registered in Singapore, under that country's law. The vendor runs Fleetbase Cloud, a hosted service where your data can live, and does not disclose who hosts it. A self-hosted install sends usage data to the vendor unless the operator switches it off. Its privacy policy says Fleetbase Cloud data may be processed in Singapore and elsewhere, and disclosed when a law, a court order or a government authority requires it.
- The Compliance Shift: By default its routing sends pickup and drop-off coordinates to the public OSRM demo server, whose policy allows only non-commercial use; commercial operators switch to their own. Self-hosting moves the security and compliance duties of running the software to the operator (the operator's compliance checklist). Any audit of Fleetbase Cloud (such as SOC 2 or ISO 27001) covers the vendor's own systems, never your install.
- License Risk: Fleetbase is under AGPL-3.0-or-later, an OSI-approved network copyleft license (what it allows and requires). The project moved to these terms from MIT in 2024. Contributors keep the rights to their code and no agreement transfers them, so moving future versions to terms without copyleft would need every holder's consent.
4. Market Landscape
π’ Proprietary Incumbents
- Onfleet: Onfleet is a hosted platform for dispatching and routing last-mile deliveries.
Data held by: Onfleet, Inc., United States πΊπΈ, subject to the US CLOUD Act for the data it holds, wherever it is stored.
Why teams leave: Its terms let Onfleet own the service's route and GPS data and use it for benchmarking.
Exit: Tasks through the List tasks API (JSON)
